This is a very special year for CAEN as it marks 25 years of providing information technology to the College of Engineering. A special CAEN 25 Anniversary exhibit will open in the Duderstadt Gallery starting next week Tue Sept 30 at 12noon and will run for approximately 2 weeks. See www.engin.umich.edu/caen/25anniversary/index.html for complete details including the exhibit hours.
The exhibit will include a technology retrospective timeline, computers and network equipment from the past 25 years, an early CAEN promotional video, sound clips from some of the CAEN founders, multiple slide shows, and more. In addition, an open house will take place Friday October 3 from 12 noon until 3:00 p.m. in the exhibit area. Light refreshments will be served, and current CAEN staff members will be on hand to answer questions and talk about the exhibit. Please stop by the exhibit and see how CAEN started and has evolved over the past 25 years.

Hey, CoE!
Do you have an idea?
During the month of September, students, staff and faculty at the University of Michigan (groups up to 5) can pitch their ideas via webcam (3 minutes or less) for new inventions, businesses, and non-profit organizations in the 1000Pitches Initiative. Awards of $1,000 will be given to the top pitches in each category: environmental and cleantech, global business, green campus, health, high-tech, local business, and social change. The Pitch deadline is October 5. 1000 Pitches is put on by the Center for Entrepreneurship in partnership with other organizations on campus. You can learn more at www.1000pitches.com.
To encourage you to let out your ideas and break down the anxiety that can occur when pitching an idea by yourself, an event will be held: Pitch Social. Pitch Social will take place from 7:30-8:30 pm on Monday, September 29 in room 1014 Dow. Dessert will be served. Just show up, eat some dessert, socialize, brainstorm... and have the possibility of winning $1000! You couldn't ask for a better deal!
A representative from MPowered will be there to give a brief introduction to 1000 Pitches. Afterward, we will be forming groups where you can brainstorm ideas to solve a problem in one of the above categories. This event is all about inspiration and socialization. If you and your group think that you have a really great idea and would like to pursue it for 1000 Pitches, then that would be great, and after Pitch Social, we can help you film your pitch on a campus computer-- and if not, then hopefully you've at least gotten to meet some new people and think creatively.
So let's inspire each other! If you would like to attend Pitch Social, email Sarah at silkhani@umich.edu so that we can have a count for desserts. Even if you don't RSVP, you are still more than welcome to attend (we can't guarantee you any dessert, though)!
Pitch Social is sponsored by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). Learn more about SWE at http://www.engin.umich.edu/soc/swe/. You need not be a female or an engineer to attend Pitch Social or join SWE!
Thanks!
